This slogan has made those devoted to their body fitness religiously go to the gym or work out at home. It is not limited to them alone. It is for you and I. A constant reminder that you can only harvest where you have sown. Maybe this will bring the message home – you only get dividends where you are a shareholder.

How many times have you expected to get favors? The thought of reaping where you did not sow should not excite you. Someone else labored for that promotion you are eyeing, another one had sleepless nights to develop that beautiful invention you now idolize and a different person altogether was selfless to invest in that business which you envy.

Everyone wants to be on the receiving end of pleasure with all the good things that life has to offer. We do not shy from our deepest desires of a holiday at the Caribbean, unlimited shopping and travelling, and a taste of high end life. Our silent prayers against walls and behind closed doors are whispers to the Almighty of our bucket of wishes.

“Dear Lord, I pray you bless me with a lot of money to live a comfortable life. I pray you divinely touch someone to bless me with a vehicle and another to fuel it for me weekly.”

Amen

The school of life rewards selfless people. Those who forego current pleasures to secure the future.

It is the askers who receive, the seekers who find and those who knock that will have doors opened for them.

Success tastes sweeter when you are proud of your input. How you can proudly associate with your contribution in your achievements matters a lot. Yes, for the first time in your life you flew to Diani for a vacation. On whose budget? Did you beg for it, was it a favor or you rightly deserved it? The point is not to helplessly depend on someone else for your needs. He/she is not your parent/guardian yet you expect them to magnanimously help you without any hidden self interest.

Learn to appreciate your own little hard work. Be proud of how you genuinely make ends meet and bigger doors will open for you ahead. Those behind the steering wheels of fuel guzzlers were once pedestrians, chain wholesales and supermarkets once had a single outlet and even owners of flats and apartments were once-upon-a-time tenants.

It is probably the impatience of our generation that has bred lazy people. A generation that is in competition with those three decades ahead of them. Thirsty for their achievements while ignoring that the latter have had enough time to attain their current status.

Success is a result of sweat, blood and tears. It is not all rosy. It takes pain to bear pleasure. You have to toil in the sun to bask in the shade.

Make peace with the ups and downs that are part of life, we accept them with grace and live to see another day. Let it be known that you live on the sweat of your brows. Be unattractive to those out there luring you with freebies into evil temptations of life.

Embrace the fact that nothing comes without a price. Live within your means.
